Two arrested over the death of ‘beautiful’ mum-of-three killed in suspected hit-and-run

Two have been arrested over the death of a “beautiful” mum-of-three who was killed in a suspected hit-and-run.

Katherine West had been crossing the road in Hindley, Wigan, on November 5 last year when she was hit by a black Peugeot 3008.

The car didn’t stop following the smash at around 9:40pm and the 59-year-old died as a result of her injuries six weeks later.

Greater Manchester Police today arrested a 31-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman over her death.

In the aftermath of the fatal incident a 32-year-old man was arrested and released under investigation.

Now officers are appealing for more information from anyone who may have witnessed the alleged hit-and-run.

PC Phil Drummond of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit is appealing to the community for their help. He said: “Whilst arrests have been made, we’re keen to hear from anyone who witnessed what happened, has dash cam footage, or has any information, to contact us – you can do so in confidence.

“This occurred on bonfire night, in a busy area which may help jog some people’s memories. We’re also appealing to garages and body repair companies who may have repaired or been approached to repair a black Peugeot 3008 with front end damage, to get in touch”.

In December, her family paid a heartbreaking tribute to the “beautiful angel” who fought “every step of the way”.

They said: “For six weeks, Katherine fought every step of the way, but unfortunately due to the horrific injuries she suffered, her battle came to an end and she gained her angel wings.

“We will forever remember her for her kind, caring funny, crazy witty ways. She had the most wicked sense of humour, even to the end.

“Not just a great mum to our three amazing children, she was ‘Mum’ to many more, and a loving nana to all her beautiful grandchildren.

“We will never forget you and your memory will live on through us all. RIP our beautiful angel. Fly high.

“(We) would like to thank everyone for their kind words, love and support during the past six weeks. Especially to the amazing friends of our three children, who without them would have made things so much harder for me. Thank you all”.
