kaoMr. Kao Sieu Luc, is the General Director and also a founder of Asia Bakery & Confectionery Private Enterprise (as known as ABC Bakery). Starting his career at the age of 28, for more than 32 years, he has become an icon of the bakery industry in Vietnam and Asia.

Early Career

Starting as a small facility in District 11 – Ho Chi Minh City in 1989, hand-made production was carried out and managed by family members. At the beginning of the start-up, the entire production process from dough mixing to baking was fully handmade with the use of homemade clay ovens. Mr. Kao was also the person to directly market his products to customers most of the time.

Growth of Duc Phat

As the business grows, it started to face difficulties such as low productivity due to the nature of a small scaled business and limited skills of bakers. However, after a step-by-step capital and experience accumulation, all aspects of the production have been upgraded and equipped with modern machines as well as latest technologies of global bakery industry to raise the quality and productivity of the production.

EAGA-LifetimeAcheivement-BAKINGARTSIn addition, thanks to the introduction of Vietnam’s open-door policies, enterprises had more opportunities to study and exchange experience overseas. In 1993, Mr. Kao was invited to visit Rheon Corporation in Japan. It was a great milestone in his career as that was a chance for him to open his door to modern bakery equipment and technologies.

Once he was back to Vietnam from his trip, he decided to apply his new found knowledge and experience onto his business. However, all these changes needed to be adjusted well so that the products could fit the Vietnamese taste. “Dừa lưới” bread, with coconut as the main ingredient and croissant bun, were his greatest success at that time and it was so successful that several other bakeries in Ho Chi Minh City tried to replicate it with limited success.

At that time, the reputation of Mr. Kao Sieu Luc was largely associated to the Duc Phat Brand. His business grew quickly year-after-year but he still could not satisfy the market’s demand. Retailers wanting to distribute his products had to be kept waiting in line.

Due to the overwhelming demand, he found that the only way is to expand the business and improve product quality to meet the ever rising demand. Through several overseas trips after that, he has strived to constantly improve the quality of his products.

In 2000, he attended a six-week Bread Technology course held by U.S Wheat Associates in Thailand. After the course, he came back to Vietnam with even more valuable knowledge about bread making. He was one of a few who were both the owner and the worker in their businesses. Therefore, it gave him the know-how to select best ingredients and wheat for each kind of bread. To build up and improve the fame of the business’ name, all the stores in his chain has been operated with consistent formulas and technologies.

Foundation of ABC Bakery

Despite of having a glorious career, Mr. Kao Sieu Luc was not lucky in marriage. The event of leaving Duc Phat Brand in 2007 was a turning point in his life. He was very determined to start building his dream brand from nothing. Eventually, Asia Bakery & Confectionery, also known as ABC Bakery, was born. It marked the beginning of a new future development for Mr. Kao Sieu Luc.

By utilizing its professional organization and management system, ABC Bakery’s store chain and distribution network quickly expanded throughout the city and neighboring provinces. The success of ABC Bakery wouldn’t be possible without the support of more than 3000 distributors, fast food chains and 34 stores located in crowded streets, of which five are located in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Apart from focusing on improving and creating new products, the company has been upgrading its hygiene standards (from July 2013). It recently received a HACCP certificate for food-safety management – VNS.

Ambition of Sharing

After spending almost â…” of his life baking and learning about bread, he does not want to stop and acquire new knowledge. He feels that the knowledge that he had acquired is not only for ABC Bakery’s development, but also for sharing with the people and community in the industry.


In 2007, Mr. Kao Sieu Luc became a member of International union of bakers, representing for Vietnam to compete and won two silver medals at International breads and cakes competition in Hong Kong. He is also the Chairman of the International Federation of Chinese Bakery & Confectionery Association(IFCBCA).

  • 2009, Mr. Kao Sieu Luc got certificate Sai Gon typical businessman of 2009” from Ho Chi Minh City People’s committee.
  • 2010, Mr. Kao Sieu Luc becomes a member of the Jury for the 2010 Bakery Masters competition in France
  • 2011, he got certificates of merit from HCM City People’s Committee for “have outstanding achievement in organizing good care of the material and spiritual life for workers, employees”
  • 2012, he had offered Labor Medal III for individuals from President of The Socialist Republic of Vietnam
  • 2016, Mr. Kao Sieu Luc again join the Jury member for the 2016 Coupe du Monde de la Boulangerie 2016 (Bakery Masters competition) in France , and also honored to be  member of club Elite de la Boulangerie Internationale .
